Rails Across America Entwicklertagebuch

VE hat ein Entwicklertagebuch (engl) zu Rails Across America ergattern können. Es ist von Russell Williams (Flying Lab Software).

Once I finished off my testing, I went and tweaked some of the sound files to be better balanced. For the engine sounds in our game, we went out and rented some locomotives and ran them for a couple of hours while we recorded sounds around them. My favorite was when we had the crew drop us off, back up a mile, and then come towards us at full speed. Not only is the sound amazing, but the ground itself starts shaking as these monsters come towards you. We were three feet away with microphones on both sides to capture the sound. It was a blast! One thing that we were surprised by when we started this project is the scarcity of high quality engine recordings. We expected to just be able to buy some good recordings, but found most of them were either recorded from a distance or were recorded with low quality equipment. Our recordings were taken with good DAT recorders and excellent mikes. Once we go gold with the game, we're going to put a lot of our original sounds out on the web page for train enthusiasts to download. The train guys that we've worked with have been incredibly enthusiastic and supportive, so it's nice to give something back to the community.
