Wizardry 8 Geschichte

Sirtech Canada started working on Wiz 8 in late 1996 with a small team which grew over the following years. Those years just after the release of CDS in 1992, before we even existed, had another team that had been contracted by Sirtech Software Inc working on a entirely different version of Wiz 8. We were not involved in that project which was cancelled as it did not progress to the satisfaction of Sirtech Software.

Sirtech Canada opened in 1994 and waited until we had a more established team before tackling a project the scope of Wiz 8.

As far as the reuse of the CDS engine... we felt strongly that releasing a game based on this 1992 technology 6 years or so later would have seen us criticized heavily (worse than we get criticized now I'm sure) and would likely have resulted in a product that sold very few copies. While it's obvious that things have not gone as anticipated on Wiz 8, our goals in starting the project were to create a technologically current product that took advantage of 3D and the effects that come with it. Creating quality games is an expensive endeavor, one that "niche" products have a difficult time surviving in. We sought to create a game with all the depth that the Wizardry series is known for, but one that also appealed to a wider audience.

We are very proud of what we have achieved on Wiz 8, and fully anticipate the day when you can experience it too.

Sorry for some undoubtedly bad grammar but it has been a difficult day. Let me just say that we are all stunned and horrified, and our thoughts go out to everyone who has been touched by today's tragedy.
